This is a book with a very beautiful narration.

Ayaz Kohli’s debut novel have done its wonders. The way facts were blended with fiction was really mind-numbing. The writing style is so immersive that it will keep the reader riveted till the last page of the novel.

The story is set in the small village of Pathri Aali near Jammu & Kashmir, 1987. It was a peaceful place with happiness and bliss in the air of the village. Years later, as men migrate to Saudi Arabia for employment now Pathri Aali is mostly populated by women and children. But as we say that some people aren’t able to digest the happy nature around them becomes the snake in the meadows and ruins everything. Soon, they realize that Mujahideen who proclaims themselves as liberators are disguised perpetrators as their misery seems inescapable. Will the people of Pathri Aali be able to fight against these militants and their atrocities, to see their village happy and peaceful once again??

There are so many characters in this book like Haji Mir, Hamida, Lal Jaan, Wazir, Hanif, Altaf, Zaitoon, Himanshu to name a few which will definitely ignite the fire within you, but Ashwar and Aslam emerges to be the legends, two young lovers who fought for their village through thick and thin, as their beautiful valley had to face everything from happiness to hatred, from love to cruelty. Thus, it becomes very interesting to see how will the book end either on a happy note or as a tragedy.

Overall, it is a hard-hitting story and one will love it for sure. It was gripping and captivating and while reading the book I literally imagined Pathri Aali and the characters in front of my eyes, this book can definitely be turned into a movie. The characters are well developed with perspicuous language making it a fascinating narration. The title of the book is so justified and apt.

Being a debut author, he deserves total appreciation for his book as he has done justice to the people of Kashmir by understanding their plight and jotting down the same in his words and thus, he has done a commendable job.

To know who are the snakes and what is a meadow, pick this novel by Mr.Kohli and tell me your views about this book?
