Review:

And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini, this book was heartfelt. The feeling with which the author has written this book has touched the core of my heart. The writing has been very smooth and pleasant. My first book of Mr. Khaled Hosseini, haven’t read his bestselling – The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns yet, but I can still assure that those two books would be as beautiful as this one.

Talking about the storyline, it is set in Afghanistan, 1952. Abdullah and his sister Pari live in a small village of Shadbagh. To Abdullah, his sister Pari means the world to him, having lost their mother; Abdullah takes care of his sister like his own daughter. The bond between them is indescribable. Abdullah and Pari along with their father Saboor, strolls on the deserted areas of Afghanistan to reach Kabul where their step uncle Nabi works as a servant in Mr. Wahdati’s house, a businessman. But one drastic step and the event tear their lives apart.

Is this book going to have happy ending?

Through generations and continents, moving from Kabul to Paris, to California, to the Greek island of Tinos, story travelling from 1952 to finally reaching in the year 2010. Khaled Hosseini defies the society and its norms, writes about the bond and how the choices we make influence our lives with time.

Truly, the mountains echoed by so strong that it could just be perceived by a bond shared between the two siblings. How a series of simple games unite two young boys from entirely two different classes, a rich and a poor. How a servant, truly served his master until his last breath. How the war worsened the conditions of Afghanistan and thus, the mountains echoed!

Having so many characters in this book, makes it sometimes difficult to keep a track of all of them. One has to read this book with utmost focus, to find out, who is related to whom and how and thus, it becomes quite haphazard. Since, it does not have a regular protagonist, so a reader has got a lot to be decoded. Every Character has a different story and thus, this novel on a whole is compressed into a dozen life stories and Mr. Hosseini has unified all of them through irresistible longing.

This book is a piece of brilliant poetry at its soul, covered by misleading flesh of prose. All in all this book is a must read, rather a must to experience, as it will take you on an emotional roller-coaster ride.

Do let me know, what are your thoughts about this piece by Khaled Hosseini?
